If you where stranded on that famous deserted island. Of course you would have a solar powered player made from a coconut(cue Gillighans Island theme). Here's the cruncher though, would there be a SBD? crisp and uncluttered? An AUD with warts and all, and the feeling of BEING there? Or that mystical alchemical wonder called the MATRIX?? Oh and what one??

The sound of a show is what impresses me more than the pedigree. I try not to be swayed by subjective labels and SBD, AUD, & MTX are just that. There are shows of all three categories that are excellent.

And since my "desert island show" is 4/29/71 w/NRPS(not even sure of the pedigree of my copy), I guess that qualifies as my non-Dead show as well. Now if I can get a pass on that one,I'll have some serious decision making to do.

Warren Haynes(acoustic) 6/15/03
Railroad Earth 8/7/04
Sam Shaber 3/19/05

Or maybe I'd just "cheat" and call Woodstock OR Texas International "a" show...BTW both of these are combination SBD, AUD, vinyl rip, audio extraction from video..even some MP3 thrown in for good measure and with a great variance in sound quality form one performer to the next

Just give me any shitty show in SBD glory from the Fall/Winter of '73 and I will be on my way.

How bout this? What would be your other (non Dead) show that is allowed to go with you.

Mine:

Widespread Panic
Carbondale, IL
12.01.00

Stilldead, that's a great twist. Listing my favorite Dead show over and over gets boring (7/18/76, no offense, Skippy)...so here's my 'other' DID...

Blur
The Budokan
Tokyo, Japan
11/8/95

oh yeah, it's a SBD.

SBD would be my choice.

The other show allowed would be Keller Williams 06-01-1995. The man is PHENOMINAL! Great show. Articulate as hell!

SBD without a doubt.

The "other" would be some Les Claypool with Jimmy Herring.

I really like a good matrix..... But if I could only take one, it would be an official release....8/13/75 One From the Vault.

As to my non dead..that is tough. For now I will go with ABB at Winterland 12-31-73. Added bonus of Jerry and Billy sitting in. #2 is subject to change depending on whether I can come up with anything better pre departure.....

Ideally, a matrix, because those recordings can actually, in my experience, come closest to capturing the feel of a show while still offering the music in optimum clarity- the 10/29/77 matrix that went up on LL yesterday is a good example of this.

So it's ironic that my desert island shows du jour are 11/11/73 (officially released, and that's the version I'd take) and 10/18/74, of which I have a master reel copy.

As for non-dead, gimme Medeski, Martin, and Wood 09/27/2001 Ann Arbor,MI.
